Bible Prophecy, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
English
Standard Version
53 Who has believed what he has heard from us?
And to whom has the
arm of the Lord been
revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry
ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we
should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised,
and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely, he has borne our
griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and
afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our
iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are
healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every
one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on
him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he
was afflicted,
yet he opened not his
mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that
before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his
mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his
generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the
transgression of my people?
9 And they made his grave with the wicked
and with a rich man in his
death,
although he had done no
violence,
and there was no deceit in
his mouth.
10 Yet it was the will
of the Lord to crush
him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for
guilt,
he shall see his
offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall
prosper in his hand.
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted
righteous,
and he shall bear their
iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the
spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the
transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for
the transgressors.

The Crucifixion
32 As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by
name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. 33 And
when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 they
offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he
would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified
him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36 Then
they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37 And
over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is
Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38 Then
two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the
left. 39 And those who passed by derided
him, wagging their heads 40 and
saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the
cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the
scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 “He
saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let
him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He
trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am
the Son of God.’” 44 And the robbers who were
crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
The Death of Jesus
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness
over all the land until the ninth
hour. 46 And
about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders,
hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And
one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and
put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But
the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And
Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two,
from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The
tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen
asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs
after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to
many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with
him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place,
they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
55 There were also many women there, looking on from
a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him, 56 among
whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph
and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ
and the Great Commission. It emphasizes Jesus’s victory over death, his divine
authority, and the mandate for his followers to make disciples of all the nations.
Matthew 28
English
Standard Version
The Resurrection
28 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of
the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And
behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended
from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His
appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 And
for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5 But
the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus
who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has
risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then
go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and
behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I
have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the
tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And
behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up
and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then
Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers
to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
The
Report of the Guard
11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went
into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And
when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a
sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and
said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while
we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the
governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So
they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been
spread among the Jews to this day.
The Great Commission
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
